Make a note in your diary – Friday 25 September – because it promises to be a special one.
That’s when the Movers & Shakers golf tournament at the Plutaluang Navy Course at Sattahip will be staged for the first time.
And the Lighthouse Club function that follows it at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club will also have plenty to catch the eye and stimulate the senses.
The golf itself should be great fun as the format is a Texas Scramble which encourages teamwork and should help every team to post a decent score.
It will be followed by the monthly get-together of the Lighthouse Club. These meetings are always super social events with free beer and food while stocks last.
Highlights
But this one should be even more special than normal with these highlights...
l Music will be provided by the delightfully talented ladies from Princess Music (pictured at top of facing page);
l Top Bangkok models such as the lady seen right will be displaying part of the swimwear collection from Phuket Mermaids (far right);
l Special food offerings will be provided by the Amari and The Balcony Restaurant;
l A small display of classic cars from Chris Lock will also enhance the proceedings.
Add to this a superb beach location at the up-market yacht club and you can see why we think the event should be something special.
Of course, it should be stressed that regulars and new visitors are more than welcome to attend just the evening event at Royal Varuna on Pratamnak. Admission is
Bt 500 for non-Lighthouse Club members and Bt 200 for members.
The whole day is being sponsored by three companies – Town & Country Property, JVK International Movers and this magazine (REm).
Many other sponsors (listed opposite) have chipped in with cash, vouchers or goods to form prizes both for the golf and the evening raffle.
Sponsorship
There is still time to become involved on the sponsorship side of the day and also time to register for the golf tournament itself. There are still slots available within the projected field of 144 players. The tournament will have a shotgun start with a maximium of two teams of four on each tee.
Plans are in hand for smart souvenir shirts to be made available to all participants in the golf.
Not bad for a very low entrance price of Bt 1,250 per person which includes a caddy fee but excludes the price of a golf cart. The figure also includes admission to the evening event where the prizes will be handed out in a short ceremony.
The tournament is set to start at noon with the evening event kicking off at 6pm so, in a bid to ensure golfers can make it to Royal Varuna in time, we have opted for a format which we hope promotes fast play. Often in Texas Scrambles there is a requirement to opt to choose at least four drives from each player but we have decided that there will be no maximum or minimum number of drives.
We hope to have local radio star Johnny Diamond of Yes2Day 96FM along to help with the prize giving and stage announcements.
The cash surplus from the event will, of course, go to the Lighthouse charity which supports day care and tuition for the children of construction workers. Ω
