When it comes to being exclusive The Hills Estate has got what it takes with a capital E, writes John Davids.
The whole estate will house just 11 properties – four of which are already taken, two of them by Thailand’s leading tennis stars.
Indeed, it’s so exclusive that in a previous article I thought it best not to reveal where the estate actually was.
But times and plans change and now the estate has its own website (www.thehillsestate.com) which reveals its location and the fact that three extra properties are now planned for The Hills.
As the name suggests the estate can be found in the hills overlooking Silverlakes and the Phoenix Golf Course. It really is an idyllic spot that owes much to feng shui in the choice of location having hills to the rear and water to the front.

Laotian entrepreneur
The development is the idea of Sonny Souvannavong, the entrepreneur who has many business interests in his birthplace, Laos.
To describe this as a showhouse showcase is a slight misnomer in that no showhouse, as such, exists. Sonny’s own home doubles as the showhouse. Given this, he is keen to attract interest from “serious” buyers as opposed to those who just like seeing how others live.
Sonny’s neighbours include tennis stars Paradorn Srichaphan and Danai Udomchoke. The fourth house is set to be occupied soon by Canadian Patrick Dean who, among other things, owns a Bangkok restaurant, fitness centres and a company that makes tennis courts.
So that should give some clue to the sort of folk The Hills Estate expects to attract.
Prices start at Btxx.xxm for the four-bedroomed The Grande and the high spot is The Retreat with six bedrooms at Btxx.xxm.
The Grande has four bathrooms, entertainment room, large living room, large dining room, swimming pool, sala, garden, maid’s quarters and a two car garage giving a total living area of 431 sqm on a four rai plot.
The Retreat has all the above plus two more bedrooms, three more bathrooms, library, another sala and two extra parking spaces. Total living area is 783 sqm.
Two other house types with amenities pitched between these two – The Premiere and The Exclusive – are also available.
Traditional Balinese architecture and the natural environment were the inspiration for this uniquely designed estate.
